Create a comment-to-DM automation
Send an instant DM whenever someone comments your keyword, and save their details automatically.
Before you start
- A connected Instagram or Facebook account (see Connect your socials).
- A keyword your audience will comment, like COFFEE or START.
- 1
Start a new automation
Go to Automations and click Create automation. Choose Start from scratch, or pick the Comment to DM template to skip a few steps.
- 2
Add the comment trigger
Click Add trigger and choose Instagram – Comment on post (or Facebook – Comment on post). Pick a specific post or choose All posts.
- 3
Set your keyword
Under Filters choose Comment contains and type your keyword. Add a few variations (coffee, Coffee, COFFEE ☕) so nobody slips through.
Short, unusual words work best — they're easy to type and rarely appear by accident.
- 4
Reply publicly (optional)
Add a Reply to comment action, e.g. "Check your DMs 👀". It shows others the offer is real and boosts engagement.
- 5
Send the DM
Add a Send Instagram DM action. Write your message and ask for a phone number or email, e.g. "Your free coffee is only a phone number away — what's yours?"
- 6
Capture their reply
Add a Wait for reply step, then Update contact field to save the phone number or email. Add a tag such as coffee-offer so you can target them later.
- 7
Publish and test
Click Save, switch the automation to Published, then comment your keyword from another account. You should receive the DM within seconds.
Troubleshooting
Nobody is getting the DM
Check the automation is Published, the account is connected, and the keyword filter matches exactly what people are typing.
Can I use one keyword on several posts?
Yes — choose All posts in the trigger, or add several posts to the same trigger.
Is there a limit on messages?
Instagram only allows one automated DM per comment within 24 hours, so keep your first message clear and complete.
